Turtle Cheesecake Shooters

Turtle Cheesecake = creamy, smooth, chocolatey, caramely goodness.

Turtle Cheecake in a shot glass = see ‘turtle cheesecake’ + New Year’s party(!?) + a totally fun way to serve cheescake.

It also meant, me, stocking up on shot glasses. The store clerk probably thought I was ready for a boozy night of fun. But in reality…she had no idea.

Barbell Cookies

I know what you’re thinking right now…that whenever I step foot in a gym and see weights, I think of cookies and chocolate dipped pretzels. Not entirely true… this combination of fudge stripe cookies, pretzel rods, and gummy savers just happen to fit together perfectly.

I will admit though, since becoming more involved with food and developing creative treats I look at everything different. You (as in, me) start thinking of what candies could become a nose, what you could use to make as legs for a cake pop turkey and other strange stuff that you might now be thinking, “huh”?! Example: last year I made pretzels into cigars (perfect for Dad). Here is something else I know Dad would enjoy…and I’m sure you wouldn’t mind either.

These are really simple to make. There is not really a recipe – but here’s how I put them together and what you will need:

Cinnamon Dessert Nachos

Need vs. Want.

Sometimes I have a hard time decifering between the two. Pinterest doesn’t help.

Overall though, I’d like to say I’m fairly practical. I usually stick to what I need – like these nachos. I need.

You need these too.

Incase you need justification: Cinco De Mayo is right around the corner…

Speaking of, did you see what I stuffed my face with for Cinco De Mayo 2010 and 2011?

Now go make these.

Cinnamon Dessert Nachos

10 small (6″) flour tortillas, cut into 1/4′s

2-3 tablespoons cinnamon-sugar

oil (I used canola, for frying)

2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped

1 1/2 cups diced pineapple (I used canned pineapple)

2 bananas, sliced

8 oz. (1/2 package) Chocolate CANDIQUIK Coating

Directions:

Heat approximately 1/2 cup oil in a large fry pan.

Dice up fruit while oil is heating.

Add 4-5 tortillas to hot oil and fry until golden, use tongs to flip tortillas to brown each side (takes about 30 sec- 1 min).

Place chips into a large bowl and sprinkle immediately with cinnamon-sugar.

Repeat with remaining tortillas. *Add additional oil if needed.

Melt CANDIQUIK according to package directions. Dip each tortilla in chocolate coating and place on a large serving plate.

Top tortilla chips with fresh fruit and drizzle with additional chocolate coating if your feeling fancy.

Tip: serve with cinnamon-infused ice cream or whipped cream for an extra delicious treat!

Oh my gosh, cinnamon ice cream on top… what the heck – this would be beyond good.

Zesty White Puppy Chow & Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs

So…a lot of football games have been on lately. Really “important” games.

Of course neither the Broncos or the (ahem) Vikings are playing anymore.

So then, naturally, I was rooting for San Francisco. Why?! Because I like California.

And this is how I pick who to cheer for. Silly, I know. But now we’re down to Giants and Patriots…what to do, what to do? Think I’ll  just cheer for the opposite team the bf is cheering for.

Then while the game is going on I’ll usually  find something yummy to make, because football games are long. Really long.

Should’ve made something that took longer….

But it all worked out, because then I went on Pinterest.

Puppy Chow, Reindeer Food, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chex Mix, Chex Lemon Buddies, or whatever you usually call it.

I have a twist on this mix today. It might sound weird. You may be skeptical. But really, it’s just as addicting as the original.

And there’s a secret ingredient involved that you would probably guess at first bite.

Pretzel Cigars, Rocky Road Bars, and Golf Ball Pops… for Dad

Whether it’s your dad, grandpa, papa, husband, or a man in your life who is “just like a dad” I really think he deserves one of these treats. Or all.

Because you love him. He loves you. So show the love and make him something – and maybe, just maybe you will reap some of the benefits.

It’s a win, win sitch(uation).

I was trying to think of “manly” treats. It wasn’t easy. But here is what I made and found for ya.

p.s. hopefully your dad enjoys golfing, cigars, or rocky roads.

My dad…well, doesn’t. He probably hasn’t touched a golf club since 1975 nor have I ever seen him smoke a stogie. However, he likes rocky road candy bars (and woodworking). I was going to form a cake ball to look like a piece of wood but I’m pretty sure I’d be the first and last to create that idea. At least I made rocky road bars. Phew.
