Love Bites

I decided to name these ‘Love Bites’  for one reason and one reason only. They can be called Love Bites as in, a small delectable treat made with love. Or Love Bites as in, love blows, stinks, sucks, etc. And I find this sorta funny. Sorta?

Well, especially for you anti-valentine people.

I happen to love Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t figured that out, check out all of these other recipes!

Cute and simple.

Love Bites

Ingredients
  • 1 package (16 oz) Vanilla CANDIQUIK® Coating
  • 1 package (16 oz) Chocolate CANDIQUIK® Coating
  • 1 box cake mix (plus ingredients for cake mix)
  • 8 oz (1/2 cup) buttercream frosting
  • Small heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Pink sugar sprinkles & additional candy coating (for piping)

Instructions
  1. Prepare and bake cake mix as directed on box.
  2. Crumble cake into a large bowl. Add frosting and mix thoroughly.
  3. Chill cake mixture in the refrigerator (you can speed this up by placing in the freezer).
  4. Make sure the cake mixture is packed tightly. On wax paper, roll out to approximately ½ inch thick. You may need to smooth out any cracks.
  5. Cut out heart shapes with a small (1-1 ½”) cookie cutter.
  6. Melt CandiQuik according to the directions on package.
  7. With a spoon, coat cake bites in melted CandiQuik; set on wax paper.
  8. Decorate as desired with candy coating and/or icings and sprinkles.

Notes
TIP: I piped the heart outline on by using the remaining Vanilla CandiQuik. Simply pour the coating into a plastic bag (or use a piping bag) with a *tiny* hole cut off one corner and pipe an outline of the heart shape. Sprinkle immediately.

Bake a cake, crumble it up…add frosting.

Make sure the cake mixture is packed tight. On wax paper, roll out to approximately ½ inch thick. You may need to smooth out any cracks with your fingers.

(Pack the cake/frosting mixture very tight & smooth out any cracks with your fingers)

Cut out heart shapes with a small (1-1 ½”) cookie cutter.

I ended up solely using my itty bitty cookie cutter because they are “bites” after all, not cupcakes. Plus, easier to coat in chocolate.

Oh, and you can eat more with less guilt.

Melt CandiQuik according to the directions on package. I usually use the microwave but the stovetop works too!

Then, using a spoon, coat cake bites in melted CandiQuik; set on wax paper to dry.

Decorate as desired with candy coating and/or icings and sprinkles. I piped the heart outline on by using the remaining Vanilla CandiQuik. Simply pour the coating into a plastic bag (or piping bag), cut a tiny hole off one corner and pipe on the heart shape. Sprinkle immediately with sugar decors.

So in a nutshell: make basic cake balls except, roll out the entire cake-ball-’dough’, cut into hearts, dip, & decorate!

I’m “bringing” this recipe to the Virtual Valentine Party at the Dollhouse Bake Shoppe. The party is on Sunday, February 5th – check it out for a super cute sugar fix!

  1. What are THESE?!?!?! Oh I KNOW…the CUTEST THINGIES EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH. Thanks for linking up and supporting me at the Tea Party this week, how awesome to have these perfect hearts!

  2. Adorable and oh so yummy! I haven’t used Candiquick yet but I’m definitly going to try it after seeing these. So glad Dollhouse Bake Shoppe hosted a Virtual Valentine’s party or I wouldn’t have seen these yummy candies.

  3. So wish I would have Sen this sooner. I did heart cake pops for my sons school party and used a cookie cutter that I push each of the 50 pops through by hand. Lots of work, but still worth it :-)
