Witches Hats

Witches Hats
For as long as I can remember, I was a HUGE Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fan.

I had all of their VHS tapes of their detective shows and movies, their Barbie dolls, their clothing line, everything. I played those poor VHS tapes until the actual tape was disintegrating from overexposure to singing twin girls. But I couldn’t get enough.

There was one movie in particular that always irked me, and that was Double, Double Toil & Trouble, their Halloween movie. Basically in the movie, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s aunts are also twins and one turns bad after finding this moonstone and banished her twin sister to live within this mirror in an abandoned attic. It’s really odd and actually terribly unscary, but as a child the worst thing imaginable (besides math homework) is probably being banished to forever within a mirror.

Anyway, for the longest time I was so spooked to walk in front of mirrors because I was afraid someone, somewhere, my unknown and evil moonstone-touting twin sister would decide at that very moment to banish me to live within a mirror forever.

Thankfully that never happened, and thankfully my fear of mirrors vanished (except for those occasions when I look at myself after a particularly bad night of sleep – talk about scary!). But I’m still waiting for my evil moonstone-wielding twin to show up one of these days…

In the meantime, I’m perfectly content in playing with my food to make it look like edible, super-cool Witch Hats. These spooktacular treats are filled to the brim with surprise candy inside and are decorated to look like mystical, otherworldly witch hats by using Chocolate CandiQuik and a few well-placed sprinkles. Easy, chocolate-coated and filled with candy — now that’s a curse I’m happy to oblige with.

Dazzle and delight your guests with these super-easy Witches Hats! Made with waffle cones, they're coated in CandiQuik and filled with surprise candy for a spooktacular treat!
Author:
Recipe type: Treats
Serves: 8
Ingredients
  • 8 waffle cones
  • 8 Oreo cookies, just the frosting half
  • 1 pkg Chocolate CandiQuik
  • Assorted bite-sized candies like Skittles, M&M's, Reese's Pieces, gummy bears, etc.
  • Sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Line a baking sheet with foil and set aside. Meanwhile, melt your CandiQuik according to package directions until smooth and completely melted. Pour the CandiQuik into a bread loaf pan - the longer, deeper shape makes it easy to dip these cones!
  2. Dip each waffle cone into the Chocolate CandiQuik, turning gently to coat completely. Lift each cone out and allow excess chocolate to drip off of the cone. Place the cone onto the baking sheet to set while you repeat with remaining cones.
  3. Once cones are set, gently invert them and fill almost to the top with candy. Dip the frosting-halved Oreo into the remaining Chocolate CandiQuik and attach it to the bottom of the cone to "seal" everything in there. Carefully and quickly revert the cone, pointed side up, back onto the baking sheet so the Oreo seals itself to the cone while the chocolate dries.
  4. Once the cone has been sealed, yet again dip the Oreo bottom into the Chocolate CandiQuik, then dredge it gently into Halloween-themed sprinkles, aiming to create a border around the bottom of the hat for a "brim." Let that set, then serve!

I absolutely LOVE how easy these are to make, and how versatile they can be, too! Use different candies to decorate the outside of the hat, or use Vanilla CandiQuik and edible markers to draw spooky designs on each one. Fill with different candy to suit your guests’ tastes, or set up a decorating station at a Halloween party for a fun and festive craft. Either way, you’ll be sure to enjoy!
