Around this time every year, Peeps start to come out in hordes. They’re literally everywhere which is ok with me because I love these little creatures, but I love them even more when they’re coated in chocolate or vanilla.
As I recently shared over on Instagram, there are two kinds of people when it comes to buying mystery flavored foods. There are those that jump at the opportunity to try something that may or may not be delicious and/or interesting and there are those that avoid the gustatory unknown like the plague.
Fortunately for you guys, I am part of the first group and love testing different flavors, Mystery Flavor Peeps included. Hey, I made Beet Brownies and Thyme Truffles for you to try. (Both were awesome, by the way. Check them out!)
Remember when Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans came out? I had to try all the flavors. Grass? Not so bad if you like vegetables. Dirty sock? Pretty bad. Don’t do it.
One of the Peep flavors was most likely chocolate. Again, not so bad, but the other one was unmistakable… buttered popcorn. We’ve all accidentally eaten one of those jelly beans, right?
I had a lot of fun making these Vanilla Dipped Peeps. Coloring CandiQuik is one of the easiest ways to change up a treat and it’s so easy to do. Add whatever color or flavor you like as long as it’s oil-based or powdered. Water or alcohol-based additions will cause the CandiQuik to become clumpy!
Of course, you don’t have to go with the Mystery Flavor Peeps. Classic marshmallow wins hands-down anyway.

- Marshmallow Peeps
- Vanilla CandiQuik
- Oil-based candy colors
- Sprinkles
- Melt Vanilla CandiQuik according to package directions.
- Divide melted CandiQuik into shallow bowls. Add oil-based candy color one drop at a time to each bowl until desired color is reached.
- Dip bottom half of Marshmallow Peep in colored Vanilla CandiQuik and set on wax paper to dry.

I have found that people either love or hate Peeps. I’m not a huge fan of them but my kids love them especially when I make fun desserts using peeps. I love how you dipped the duck peep into chocolate and made it look like it was racing in a car. We will have to give these treats a try next year.
