Vanilla (candiquik), Mint (extract), steamed milk. Latte? Yes…technically speaking.
A little brush up on history of on the “latte”:
In Italian, latte means milk. What in English-speaking countries is now called a latte is shorthand for “caffelatte” or “caffellatte“. The Italian form means “coffee and milk”.
So you may be thinking, where am I going with this? Well, ordering a traditional “latte” (say, in Italy) will get the customer a glass of hot or cold milk…so even though this recipe may not contain coffee – it is a latte!
Ok, enough explanation. Just had to justify the recipe title, incase any of you may say – how is this a “latte”!?
So – Chop 1 full bar (16oz) of Vanilla Candiquik into small pieces and place in a heat resistant bowl…set aside.
(a little muscle required, haha)
Heat 4 cups of milk on stove over medium-high heat for approximately 10 minutes, or until simmering.
Pour the heated milk over the CandiQuik chunks and stir until all chunks are melted. Stir in vanilla and peppermint extract. Add eight drops of green food coloring to make green. Pour drink mixture into glasses, top with whipped cream and nonpareils or sprinkles and serve.
- 1/2 gallon milk or soy milk
- 1 pound vanilla CandiQuik
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- Green food coloring (optional, but fun)
- Whipped cream
- Sprinkles or nonpareils
- Heat milk on the stovetop on medium heat for ten minutes, or until simmering.
- Chop the Candiquik into small pieces and place into a heat resistant bowl.
- Pour the heated milk over the Candiquik chunks and stir until melted.
- Stir in peppermint extract.
- (Optional) Add eight drops of green food coloring.
- Pour drink mixture into glasses, top with whipped cream and nonpareils, sprinkles, (maybe Andes mints!?) and serve!
