Frankenstein Twinkie Pops {And Monster Twinkie Pops!}

Frankenstein Twinkie Pops
So I apologize to anyone in advance, but when it comes to Halloween, I get way too excited and immediately lose all semblance of willpower around bright bags of chocolate candy, pumpkin everything, spooky decor, and Halloween treats.

It’s like the second stores break out the pumpkin goodies and plastic bat decorations, my mind kind of explodes with happiness and I want to buy all the Halloween things.

Is there a Halloween Decor Anonymous? Because I would be the spokesperson.

And don’t even get me started on Halloween recipes. I spend the rest of the year pinning recipes on Pinterest to my Halloween boards, eagerly counting down the days where I can break out the eyeball candies and make everything look like ghoulish creatures. While I’m usually more drawn toward the cuter Halloween foods, there’s a definite time and place for the creepier stuff, like eyeballs and fake blood. However today’s recipe focuses on making these typically frightening creatures into cutesy-creepy confections. And what better way to transform three terrifying creatures into Twinkie Pops!?

Not only are these Twinkie Pops a cinch to make, but they’re a great recipe to engage your children’s imaginations! Let the kiddos decorate their ghoulish goblins as their hearts desire – setting out an array of assorted candies, eyeballs, sprinkles and toppings helps them transform these ordinary Twinkies into spooktacular treats! Even Frankenstein, with all his nuts, bolts and black magic, can be made in a snap by using a couple pieces of candy and of course, CandiQuik!

I hope you have a monstrous appetite, because it will be hard to stop snacking on just one pop!

Recipe type: Pops
Serves: 12
Ingredients
  • 10 Twinkies, unwrapped
  • 1 pkg Vanilla CandiQuik
  • Oil-based green food coloring
  • 12 green miniature M&M's candies
  • 12 Tootsie Roll Midgees candies, cut in half
  • ½ cup chocolate sprinkles
  • 24 candy eyeball sprinkles
  • 1 square Chocolate CandiQuik
  • Popsicle sticks
Instructions
  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil; set aside. Melt the Vanilla CandiQuik according to package directions until smooth. Stir in a couple drops of the oil-based green food coloring until a desired green shade has been achieved; set aside.
  2. Lay the Twinkies onto the foil-lined baking sheet pointed up and down. Cut the tops of the Twinkies off and discard top pieces. You want them to have a flat top or "head" of Frankenstein. Dip the end of a Popsicle stick into the CandiQuik and gently insert it into the bottom of a Twinkie. Freeze the Twinkie pops for about 20 minutes or until solid.
  3. Reheat the CandiQuik if needed on low-heat, stirring until smooth again. Pour the green-tinted CandiQuik into a drinking glass or something long and narrow so dipping the pops is easier. Submerge each Twinkie pop into the green-tinted CandiQuik, allowing excess to drip off.
  4. Dredge the flat heads of the Twinkie pops into the chocolate sprinkles, then return them to the baking sheet. Immediately press on two eyeballs, an M&M nose, and place the Tootsie Roll halves on either side of his face, holding in place for a couple moments to set. Repeat with remaining Frankenstein pops.
  5. Microwave the Chocolate CandiQuik square until smooth and melted. Spoon the melted chocolate CandiQuik into a resealable plastic bag, seal out the air, and snip off a corner of the bag. Pipe 'M' shaped squiggle "mouths" onto a piece of wax paper. Pipe 12 mouths. Allow the mouths to set until dry, then using the remaining chocolate CandiQuik, apply a small dot to the back of the squiggle mouths, then gently adhere the squiggle mouths to the Frankenstein face.
  6. Once completely set, they're ready to eat! Or, you can wrap them and gift them to friends and family.

In case you were wondering, here’s the anatomy of Frankenstein… Don’t you kind of feel like the Doctor making him all spooky-like?! He’s allliiiiiiiiivveee…(barely, before I eat him!) :)

Twinkie Bat Pops
Simply coat the frozen Twinkies in Chocolate CandiQuik and attach candy eyeballs and miniature white chocolate or miniature yogurt chips as fangs. While the Twinkie Bats set, use the remaining Chocolate CandiQuik to pipe bat wings onto a piece of wax paper. Hint: print out bat wing-shaped templates online, then place the templates under the wax paper to use as a piping guide! Attach the bats to their wings and voila! Dracula would be jealous!

Mummy Twinkie Pops
And for the Mummy Twinkie Pops, coat the frozen Twinkies in Vanilla CandiQuik and attach candy eyeballs. Let the CandiQuik harden, then use the remaining Vanilla CandiQuik to pipe stripes onto the Twinkies to create the bandages. No facial expressions needed – this is the easiest pop of them all!
