Cookie Footballs + 28 Fantastic Football Recipes for Game Day!

Cookie Footballs

I admit, I’m a little bit of a football fan.

I know the rules of the game, I’ll tag along if friends are going to a game, and I’ll cheer when my team is playing… I’ll even wear my team’s colors proudly, as if wearing their colors will somehow will the magic football gods to make my beloved team win.

However, I think I engage so much in football because of football food. Tailgating stuff, game-day snacks, stadium treats… it’s all so irresistible to me! Where else am I supposed to engorge myself on foot-long hot dogs and chilly brews while sitting among face-painted folk?

But for times when I can’t attend games, I always make it a point to at least have good food while I watch the game at home. Typically we’ll have chips and a variety of dips (salsa and spinach-artichoke dip are my favorites!), cocktail weenies in the crockpot, and a salami, cheese and cracker set-up. But if you know me, you know I love my sweets, and football can’t very well be celebrated without some football treats to sweeten the viewing experience!

While I was looking for football-themed desserts, I was shocked at how many ideas there were floating around on Pinterest. Football apple slices, football dip, football whoopie pies… it has moved way beyond the days of just a simple cupcake with a plastic football pick stuck inside the frosting. People sure do love their football, especially when it’s dipped in chocolate :)

Cookie Footballs
These Cookie Footballs are my new favorite because they literally take seconds to make. Simply dip the cookies into your melted chocolate CandiQuik, let them set, then pipe on vanilla CandiQuik “stitches.” It doesn’t take a rocket science degree in royal icing, and you don’t even have to bake the cookies! They’re made with those Milano cookies that are naturally oblong-shaped, similar to a football shape. Those cookies have so many flavors nowadays that choosing one you’d like best is probably the hardest part about making these cookies! I chose Chocolate Fudge, but mint, caramel, or vanilla would be equally delish! They’re perfect for gifts to teachers or die-hard football fans, or easy snacks to have on hand for game day.

Or just perfect to eat while you pretend to watch what’s going on… ;)

Cookie Footballs + 28 Fantastic Football Recipes for Game Day!

Football fans, celebrate the winning dessert at your next tailgating or game-day party! These Cookie Footballs are SO simple to make and only three ingredients!
Author:
Recipe type: Cookies
Serves: 15
Ingredients
  • 1 pkg Milano cookies, any flavor of your choosing
  • ½ pkg (8 oz) Chocolate CandiQuik
  • 1 square Vanilla CandiQuik
  • Chocolate piping bottle, optional (but makes it easier to pipe on the stitching)
Instructions
  1. Line a baking sheet with foil; set aside. Meanwhile, melt the Chocolate CandiQuik according to package directions until smooth.
  2. Dip the cookies completely into the Chocolate CandiQuik with a fork, allowing excess chocolate to drip off of the cookie. Gently slide the cookie off of the fork and onto the baking sheet; repeat with remaining cookies.
  3. Once chocolate has set, melt the Vanilla CandiQuik for about 30 seconds in the microwave, or until melted. Pour the Vanilla CandiQuik into a chocolate piping bottle.
  4. Pipe stitches onto each football cookie. Allow the stitching to dry before serving cookies.
  5. NOTE: if you cannot find a chocolate piping bottle, you may place the Vanilla CandiQuik inside of a disposable piping bag attached with a small open circle tip, or place the Vanilla CandiQuik into a small resealable baggy and snip off a corner of the baggy.
