Cherry Cookies

Cherry Cookies

Any other 80′s babies out there?! Was it just me, or were cherries quite popular in the 90′s?

Think cherry tattoos, cherry rearview mirror ornaments…you with me? Cherry seat covers. They were right up there with the fuzzy dice.

In fact, I saw someone with the cherries dangling from their rearview mirror in their car just the other day.

So then when I saw a Nutter Butter, I thought why not make it into a cherry!? They clearly already make great sunglass cookies, snowmen, reindeer, and ghosts - so why not cherries?!

Again – totally convinced that Nutter Butter cookies are the most universal cookie in the world.

Serves: 16
Ingredients
16 Nutter Butter cookies
  • 1 (16 oz.) package Vanilla CANDIQUIK Coating
  • Red sugar decor sprinkles
  • Sour Punch Straws candy (green)
Instructions
  1. Prepare the cherry stems by cutting Sour Punch Straws into 1" strips; set aside.
  2. Melt Vanilla CANDIQUIK® Coating in tray according to package directions.
  3. Dip each cookie into Candiquik and set on wax paper.
  4. Sprinkle each cookie thoroughly with red sugar decors. Let dry.
  5. Dip the ends of each candy 'stems' in the coating and press on the edge of the cookie to form a point. Pinch the two stems together with your fingers.

These are so simple to make. and here are a couple tips when making these:

After dipping and placing the cookie on the wax paper, if the coating begins to ‘pool’ around the edges of the cookie, simply slide the cookie over to a clean spot on the wax paper to prevent all the excess coating from drying on the bottom.

Since you are sprinkling the entire surface of the cookie, place the cookies on a cookie sheet so once they are dry, you can salvage the sprinkles that fell off.

Also, when you’re making the stems for these, cut the end of the sour candy at a slight angle so the stem can lean towards to middle – forming a point with the other stem!

Enjoy!
