Apple Pie Caramel Apples

Apple Pie Caramel Apples - the best caramel apples I've tried! @candiquik

Have you ever been somewhere and suddenly get overwhelmed with hunger? Happens to me alll the time. Just ask anyone who knows me – I have the appetite of a truck driver. And yes, I work out specifically for dessert.

Well anyways, as I’m sitting in the waiting area while getting my oil changed, after I’ve read every gossip-filled magazine imaginable, my stomach begins embarrassedly talking to me. Then someone has the nerve to walk in with…

McDonald’s french fries.

Don’t judge me. Those fries are still soo good. I say still because…

Anyone remember FRY SAUCE?

Or are you like most of my (weird) friends in Minnesota who just look at me, heads cocked, and say, “Fry sauce, what the heck is fry sauce?”?

Well fry sauce my friends, fry sauce is a delicious concoction of ketchup, mayo, and whatever else (I’m thinking it was some addicting substance that I shall not mention on here) McDonald’s decided to throw together. And then they DISCONTINUED it. It vanished from the Earth approximately 10+ years ago. So now I just mix ketchup and mayo and go on my merry ways. Thanks a lot, McDonald’s.

Well I won’t do that to you…I won’t ever take this delicious treat away from you. That’s just wrong. So here are the instructions…save them in a very safe place such as Pinterest, your email, recipe book, Facebook, or on a super reliable computer.

And if you never had the pleasure of trying fry sauce…well never mind then. Just let me Google “Mcdonald’s Fry Sauce” for you. You’ll see it really, truly existed.

p.s. click on that link above, it certainly entertains me and can come in great use.

I totally have that Must Eat NOW feeling all the time when I’m out and about! And I am on board with McDonald’s fries (especially smothered in delicious fry sauce :). These caramel apples are gorgeous! I can never make mine look pretty, but maybe the candy coating will help :)

These are my favorite apples at those fancy chocolate stores but this will be so much cheaper and something fun to do with the kids.

Your talk of fry sauce made me comment when I never do. I have never known anyone outside of Utah who had heard of fry sauce. I have to tell you that if you are really dying for it you can go to Arctic Circle’s (fast food restaurant) website and buy it. They have the best you can buy in a bottle.

I’ve been looking for some interesting ways to “spice” (ahaha?) up a caramel apple! Thank you for sharing, they look so pretty and delicious. I’m excited to try! :)

P.S. If you’re home with your mayo/ketchup mix for your fries, toss in a splash of Worcestershire sauce. I’ve been told that’s what it was–mayo, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce (…aaaand probably some preservatives?), and that’s always how I’ve always made it (…sans-preservatives). I have to admit, it never occurred to me that fry sauce isn’t typical across the country!

For anyone wondering about fry sauce.. It is actually very common here in Utah. You can get it at about every fast food place and also buy it in grocery stores. For the most part I hear most people have never heard of fry sauce outside of Utah.

Fry sauce is everywhere in Utah… Its on the shelves at the grocery stores next to ketchup. One of the perks of living here! A restaurant I used to work at would mix mayo and bbq sauce together for their “fry sauce” which is delicious also!

Thanks for the caramel apple recipe, I have tasted one like this before and the cinnamon sugar puts it over the top! I can’t wait to make this!
